Problems in qualifying for the first two races of 2005 at Brands Hatch saw Shane having to start from the back of the grid for both races. Fired up for the challenge Shane came away with two 4th places and the driver of the day award after 40 overtaking manoeuvres!
Four straight podium finishes followed at Castle Combe, Silverstone and Snetterton after close battles at the head of the field.
At the mid season point Shane held second place in the championship.
At Mallory Park a 4 car crash took Shane and two other drivers out of race 1. With only 1 hour to repair the car, the team rushed to get Shane back on track for the second race, he managed to bring the car home in race 2 for some valuable points in 5th place.
After disappointing races at Donington and Oulton Park followed Mallory, Shanes early season form kept him in with a shout of a top three championship finish at the final round.
Poor weather at Castle Combe saw the race abandoned after 2 laps, but not before Shane had climbed from 5th on the grid to 2nd.
After a challenging season, Shane secured 3rd place in the final ARP Formula 3 Championship.
