Shane Kelly's bad run of luck at Mallory Park continued today during
round 7 of the 2006 Club F3 Championship.
Despite two successful test days,
Shane's Dallara F3-97 was stuck by electrical gremlins during the
warm-up prior to qualifying. After a rapid engine wiring loom change;
Shane was able to take to the circuit with 15 minutes of qualifying
remaining and post the 6th quickest time.
However, the wiring change had not
completely cured Shane's problems and despite working against the
clock to eliminate them, the team ran out of time to find a cure.
Shane took his position on the grid,
but the engine had begun to misfire as a result of the worsening
electrical problem. As the field made its way around on the green
flag lap, Shane struggled to keep his engine running. He returned
to the grid but was unable to take the start as the engine lost
all power, for the second race in a row Shane's race was over almost
before it began.
Despite the disappointing result,
Shane still tops the Club F3 Championship Standings with two rounds
remaining.
"One to forget is what springs
to mind! It seems the Mallory bad luck has struck again."
Said a disappointed but still optimistic
Shane after the race.
"Taking the positives from
the weekend, I am still leading the Championship! All our hard work
this season has earned us the cushion that has protected our lead
despite the bad luck in the last two races. I am leading and the
pressure is off. The pressure is on my rivals who still have a lot
of ground to cover to catch me."
"This was a very frustrating
day for everyone involved with the team, but we are already on top
of the problem and looking forward to Oulton Park and to putting
the Championship to bed."
